Chapter 2 the lovely new restaurant at Mani Square and Diageo hosted “Art of Blending “a session on Scotch Whiskies conducted by Mr.Shantanu Sengupta , Brand Ambassador , United Spirits Ltd. The session was a tasting of five whiskies Black Dog, Black & White, Johnny Walker Red, Johnny Walker Black and Vat 69.

It covered the regions and flavors of Scotland, the science of blending, the craftsmanship of the Master Blender resulting in iconic scotch whiskies followed by a nosing and tasting of some of the finest available blends internationally. Mr.Shantanu Sengupta was wonderful in the way he interacted with the guests and made the session informative, interesting and a lot of fun.

I grew up hearing my parents talk about Park Street in its heydays in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s …. About how talented Pam Crain and Usha Uthup were …. That restaurants like Firpos, Bluefox, Skyroom , Trincas and Mocambo were the epitome of elegant evenings and fine dining. Thankfully I am old enough to have eaten in all of them back in the 70’s since I come from a family of foodies.  I was quite delighted that after Mr.Sengupta finished with his very interesting session we could sit back eat some amazing food like Ham, Bacon and Potato Salad, Prawn on Toast, English Fish Fry, BBQ Chicken Wings, Pork Spare Ribs Caesar Salad, Corn Cheese Balls and Chocolate Mousse while the amazing Usha Uthup crooned everything from Skyfall to Dum Maro Dum and had us all enthralled. This was followed by a scintillating performance by the band Barefoot. There were two special Cocktails specially curated for the evening made from Johnnie Walker Red Label , the “Red Label Mule “ which was made with Red Label , Ginger Ale and Fresh Citrus and the “Stone Fruit Spritz “ which was made with Red Label , Apricots , Peaches and Citrus Peel and that was the one I was partial to.

The evening was graced by glitterati from Tollywood like Sudeshna Roy , Abhijit Guha , Arunima , Arijit Dutta …. Fashion designers Agnimitra Paul , Abhishek Dutta  ;  Adman Ram Ray , Director East India British Council – Sujata Sen , Former Bengal Cricketer Sambaran Banerjee among others.
